Wamboin legends
There are two types of legends, and these pages celebrate both. The first type is the legend created by stories of times past, handed down from generation to generation. The second type of legend is that which inspires or achieves legendary fame.
In Wamboin we are fortunate to have both types of legends in bountiful supply.
Aboriginal Wamboin
In a spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the traditional owners of the country in which we live, Wamboin
David McDonald writes about the traditional owners of the Wamboin region, who were displaced when European settlers occupied these lands in the 1820s.
A more recent history of Wamboin
This history of Wamboin is written by Don Evans. Don has lived in Wamboin for over 30 years. His parents, Sally and Dene, were amongst the first people who settled in the Canberra Country Estate, which was a selection of small acre rural homesites. Don's stories were initially published in the Wamboin Whisper and are published on our web site with his permission. They are worth reading.
Other people who have stories to tell about the history of Wamboin are invited to share them by emailing the stories to the Webmaster@Wamboin.org.
Legendary residents of Wamboin
The second type of legend is a little more difficult to winkle out. These are the people in Wamboin who inspire others, and whose fame promises to be enduring. They are people of legendary accomplishment, celebrated by the media and well known by many Australians, and who have chosen to live in Wamboin.
The following list is by no means concluded. We are sure there are many others who should be added. If you know who they are, email us and let us know.
