The Wamboin Web

About this site

This site was developed by Bruce Bowden and Jenni Colwill of Frogmouth Communications to support the Wamboin community.

Bruce runs Frogmouth Communications, building web sites which are then sometimes managed by Jenni, who also manages a consulting business, Leapfrog Leadership as well as running a non-profit organisation called 2020women. We have lived in Wamboin since 2005, and run our businesses from our home.  As a result, we have seen Wamboin in many guises, and love them all.

When we arrived in Wamboin, we were warmly welcomed by the Wamboin Community Association meeter and greeter, Lofty Mason, and we have enjoyed getting to know other members of the Wamboin community ever since.

The story of the Wamboin Web

In April 2009, the Wamboin/Bywong area had one web site built to support the local community - the Bywong Community Association web site. At that time we felt that the community needed something more and we approached the Wamboin Community Association with the idea of creating a web site that provided a range of services to the local residents, as well as promoting the activities of the WCA.

By July 2009 the initial version of the Wamboin Web was up and running however it became apparent that our vision for the site and that of the WCA differed somewhat. We envisaged a site that encompassed the whole Wamboin/Bywong community - promoting all local groups that wished to use the site, as well as offering community-based content such as the discussion forums, Wamboin Gardner, Arts and Culture pages and photo galleries. The Wamboin Community Association  saw the site as supporting only those activities directly associated with the Association, and wanted tight control over every detail of the site. They subsequently decided to create their own site.

By the time we realised that the differences could not be reconciled, the Wamboin Web was already attracting both visitors and contributors. We were also enjoying the added connections into the community and were getting very positive feedback. We decided that the site was worthwhile and was repaying all our efforts so have committed to continuing and expanding the Wamboin Web with your support.

The Wamboin/Bywong area now has three separate web sites. To assist our visitors we provide links to relevant information on the other two sites. For example, we link to the Landcare details on the Bywong site and the local Fire Brigade pages on the WCA site.

Each web site has its own character and each will grow into something different over time. Friendly rivalry between the three sites should see expanded services that benefit all residents.

Thanks for visiting

Bruce and Jenni
